NYSYR Chairman Peter Giunta Reacts to Governor Kathy Hochul’s 2024 State of the State Address

By January 9, 2024Statements

“This confirms it — Governor Kathy Hochul lives in a state of total fantasy.

In her annual State of the State Address today, this out-of-touch Governor doubled down on a costly pie-in-the-sky leftwing wish list that largely ignored much of the reality being faced by ordinary New Yorkers every day. Make no mistake, this is more talk from a career politician who has delivered zero since taking office in 2021.

Instead of proposing real solutions to solve real problems, and despite acknowledging that over-spending and over-regulating would not solve any problem, this Governor proposed one of the largest expansions of state government in history. That means more costs for taxpayers, more regulations for businesses, and even more government bureaucracy.

Today confirms that this Governor really has no plan. She has no plan to make the everyday cost of living in New York more affordable — don’t be fooled, this goes beyond housing — nor does she have a plan to make New York safer. And while she used young people as props for much of her address, the reality is that fewer young people are staying and starting families in New York because of the outrageous cost of this agenda.

There’s an old saying that nothing good happens when the New York State Legislature is in session and, sadly, I suspect this year will be no different.”
