ALBANY, NY — With the early voting period beginning this weekend for the Tuesday, September 12th special election in New York’s 27th Assembly District, the Association of New York State Young Republican Clubs (NYSYR) announced today its endorsement of Young Republican and community leader David Hirsch. In addition to this, NYSYR is announcing a statewide day of action — its first of the cycle — to support Hirsch.
NYSYR represents more than 50 county- and campus-based chapters comprising more than 2,500 registered members statewide. It is a diverse coalition of professional operatives, public servants, elected officials, business leaders, young professionals, and students working to recruit, train, and elect a new generation of Republicans across New York.
“The disastrous effects of Democrat one party rule in New York has sparked a flame in a new generation of young Republicans who are stepping up to run for office in droves,” said NYSYR Chairman Peter Giunta. “Today, on behalf of the entire Association, I am incredibly proud to endorse our fellow Young Republican, David Hirsch, in the special election for Assembly District 27 in Queens. David is familiar with the issues affecting young New Yorkers, from crime to unaffordability, and as a community leader, has experience building the coalitions necessary to achieve a common sense agenda in Albany. This is an opportunity to flip a district held by the Democrat machine for almost 60 years, meaning that a vote for David is a vote for real change — do not pass it up!”
“I would like to thank the New York State Young Republicans and Chairman Giunta for this support,” said David Hirsch. “I am confident that the upcoming mobilization of the NYSYR will be instrumental in our march towards victory on September 12th.”
The special election was called by Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado following the resignation of Daniel Rosenthal, a Democrat who held the seat since 2018. The district has been held by Democrats for 56 years (since 1967) and despite going for Democrat Joe Biden in 2020, the district went for Republican Lee Zeldin in 2022.
In addition to this endorsement, NYSYR has endorsed more than 65 other Young Republicans who are running for office across New York this year. Endorsed candidates are eligible to access a myriad of resources from NYSYR, including financing, digital services, and boots-on-the-ground support.
NYSYR also announced its first statewide day of action of the cycle to target the district on Sunday, September 10th, in the Whitestone section of Queens. Young Republicans from around the state will gather at Francis Lewis Park (corner of 3rd Avenue and 147th Street, Whitestone, NY) for a GOTV rally featuring Hirsch, Councilwoman Vickie Paladino, and others.
