Statement from NYSYR Chair Peter Giunta on federal judge’s ruling over New York’s “unconstitutional” gun control laws

By September 1, 2022Statements

“Yesterday’s ruling from Chief U.S. District Court Judge Glenn Suddaby in the matter Antonyuk v. Bruen validates what many constitutional experts believe — New York’s sweeping gun control laws passed this summer, such as the creation of gun-free zones and mandates disclosure of social media accounts, violate the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners.  In fact, this is exactly what Judge Suddaby stated in his decision, despite ultimately ruling to dismiss the suit due to lack of standing at this time.  Regardless, we remain confident that Governor Kathy Hochul’s unconstitutional gun control laws will be struck down in the near future.

From New York City to Buffalo, violent crime has skyrocketed and the proliferation of illegal firearms is rampant. Instead of going after real criminals, Governor Hochul and New York Democrats have doubled down on their war against responsible, licensed, and constitutionally protected gun owners.

Unfortunately, the war against law-abiding citizens has become the new norm under one-party rule in New York — and, on November 8th, New Yorkers will rise up to put an end to it once and for all.”
